Central to the mission of the Patriot Art Foundation is WE THE PEOPLE: Portraits of Veterans in America which is acclaimed artist Mary Whyte’s portraits of military veterans reintegrating back into society and the workforce. Featuring portraits of current day veterans of all ages, in all walks of life and from every state, Whyte’s 50 large scale watercolors have captured the essence of what it means to be an American veteran today. The collection represents the many educational components of the overall project and vision.

Mary Whyte

The Patriot Art Foundation was born from the creation of Mary Whyte’s WE THE PEOPLE: Portraits of Veterans in America.

In 2019, Mary Whyte’s groundbreaking traveling exhibition of 50 watercolors called We the People: Portraits of Veterans in America opened to the public in Charleston, South Carolina. In the first six weeks alone over 22,000 people viewed the collection. The response, especially from veterans, confirmed Whyte’s belief in art’s extraordinary power to communicate and connect. And so, what began as fifty portraits turned into a national mission giving veterans a means of finding whole health through art and self expression.

“Mary Whyte’s WE THE PEOPLE is a moving and important tribute to our nation’s greatest patriots – the men and women who served our country with courage, selflessness and honor.” Major General James E. Livingston, Medal of Honor
