Our annual Veterans Day Weekend live hands-on event aboard the USS Yorktown, to be held Saturday, November 9th, 2024.

Veterans, join us in Charleston,SC, Columbus, OH, and Fort Belvoir, VA, for a day of watercolor painting instruction, a live painting demonstration by Mary Whyte-open to the public, camaraderie and more. This event will be simulcast from the Yorktown to The United States Army Museum, Fort Belvoir, VA and The National Veterans Memorial and Museum, Columbus, OH where veterans will be painting as well.  All art materials, instruction and lunch are provided at the three locations at no cost. In 2019, Mary Whyte’s groundbreaking traveling exhibition of 50 watercolors called We the People: Portraits of Veterans in America opened to the public in Charleston, South Carolina. In the first six weeks alone over 22,000 people viewed the collection. The response, especially from veterans, confirmed Whyte’s belief in art’s extraordinary power to communicate and connect. And so, what began as fifty portraits turned into a national mission giving veterans a means of finding whole health through art and self expression.
